Brady is aware of the news that multiple AK-47s were retrieved from the suspect who targeted two lawmakers, killing Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark and injuring Minnesota state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.
Now more than ever, we need to send an urgent message to Congress and demand action to end our gun violence epidemic and stop the next tragedy: Call on Congress to pass a new assault weapons ban NOW!

Friend,
When news of another shooting breaks, it can be easy to feel numb in the face of yet another tragedy.
But we cannot allow ourselves to turn away from the destruction caused by gun violence in this country. Assault weapons should be banned. Political disagreements should be handled without violence. Friend, we must demand that our lawmakers take action.
Tell Congress to ban military-style assault weapons and put an end to the tragic gun violence we face every day ->

In 1981, a gunman pushed through a crowd of reporters in Washington, D.C., aimed at President Ronald Reagan, and fired six shots in less than two seconds. Jim Brady, the president's press secretary, was shot point-blank in the head. Miraculously, he survived. After recovering, Jim dedicated the rest of his life to fighting for gun violence reform. This story of survival turned into advocacy isn’t unique to Jim — it’s the same path that brought me and so many others to Brady.
When my mom was shot and killed opening the door to our home, I searched for a way to turn my grief into action. Eventually, I found Brady. Jim’s legacy of commitment to this movement permeates our work still. And we continue to be an organization led by and for survivors of gun violence.
Brady has fought to end political violence — and all forms of gun violence. And now, we are reminded once again of the importance of our fight.

Change requires action, and action requires that we face these tragedies, the bloodshed, and hysteria head-on.
Progress demands that we refuse to go numb, refuse to look away, refuse to be frozen by our grief.
In order to transform our culture, we must bring our whole selves – our grief AND our anger – to this movement.
Today, I’m asking you to join me in facing this tragedy and sending a message to the lawmakers who have remained frozen in their inaction for far too long.
We must demand that our leaders stand up to the gun lobby and ban assault weapons NOW before the next tragedy happens:

This act of political violence was needless and preventable — and we must continue to do what we can to prevent more violence tomorrow.
Today of all days, thank you for taking action.
