In the early hours of Saturday morning an anti-abortion extremist dressed as a police officer, driving an authentic fake police car, showed up at the doors of two Minnesota democratic lawmakers and shot them, killing state Senator Melissa Hortman and her husband, and wounding State Senator John Hoffman and his wife.

In the attacks aftermath, the Senate moved to increase security for Democratic Minnesota US Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith.

However, according to reporting by Axios, pleas for additional protection for additional protection of members of the House of Representatives were denied by House Republican Leadership:

Republicans in both the Senate and House have told reporters that they refrain from criticizing or voting against Trump out of concerns of physical violence against them and their families from his supporters.
