Click here to RSVP. | Black Music Month Resolution | I introduced a resolution last week celebrating the contributions of Black Americans to the musical heritage of the United States. Often, students of color lack access to critical arts education and training programs. This resolution not only designates this month as Black Music Appreciation Month, but is also a call to action for more resources for music education in underserved communities. | Remembering & Honoring Charles B. Rangel with Congressional Gold Medal | In honor of the life and legacy of the Lion on Lenox Ave., the Honorable Charles B. Rangel, I joined my colleagues in introducing legislation to posthumously award him with the Congressional Gold Medal. In Congress, Rangel continuously broke barriers; he was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus and served as the first Black Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee. He was a servant leader, a dear friend, and a mentor – his impact will be felt for generations to come.
