Trump's ICE raids hide his real agenda: massive cuts to federal agencies and benefits. Especially in Virginia!

Trump is once again turning up the volume on fear, launching a wave of ICE enforcement actions to dominate the headlines. But behind the chaos is a real plan: a sweeping bill that would gut Medicaid, slash veterans’ benefits, and strip critical support from working families, especially in Virginia.

ICE Raids Are just one part of Trump’s war on democracy

Families across the U.S. are living in fear of sudden ICE raids and detentions—many of them right here in Virginia. Northern Virginia communities have already seen increased surveillance and ICE activities. But this is more than cruelty, it’s a political strategy. While people are focused on ICE, Trump is quietly advancing legislation that will devastate essential services.

What This Means for Virginia

Under Trump's so-called "Big, Beautiful Bill", Virginia would be among the hardest-hit states:

• Federal agencies: Agencies like the Department of Education, National Institutes of Health and the National Endowment for the Arts drive progress and improved quality of life across the nation - and are our region’s biggest employers.  The DOGE Commission cuts were the tip of the iceberg.  The “Big, Beautiful Bill” does even more harm to our federal government and federal workers.
• Medicaid: Over 2 million Virginians rely on Medicaid—including children, seniors, and people with disabilities. A rollback of federal funding would force the state to either raise taxes, cut services, or both.
• Veterans: Virginia has one of the highest veteran populations in the country. Cutting VA benefits and community support will directly harm those who’ve served, especially in areas like Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia.
• Hospitals & Rural Health: Hospitals in rural Virginia depend on Medicaid reimbursements. These cuts could force closures and job losses in already underserved areas.
• Working Families: With the rising cost of living across the Commonwealth, any reduction in federal support for SNAP, housing, and childcare assistance puts more families at risk of eviction, hunger, and economic instability.

These aren’t abstract numbers—this is real harm to real people.

How You Can Help

We’re organizing across Virginia to:

1. Support immigrant communities facing ICE harassment and detention.
2. Mobilize against budget cuts to essential programs that keep Virginia families healthy, housed, and fed.
3. Volunteer with Fairfax County Democratic Committee and help expose the truth about Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill and its devastating impact on our state.
4. Vote in the June 17 Primary and in the June 28 CD11 Firehouse Caucus.  Virginia now has same-day voter registration, so tell friends and family: there is no excuse not to vote!
5. Donate now to protect Virginia’s communities from ICE raids and benefit cuts.

This year not only are we electing a Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, a new Congressman by special election, and the entire House of Delegates, but depending on who wins the Lieutenant Governor race we could also have a special election in the narrowly divided Virginia Senate.

Republicans are motivated after Trump's 2024 victory and thanks to his billionaire friends like Elon Musk they have a big money advantage.

Let’s send a clear message: We won’t let Trump sacrifice our future for his political theater.

We see the playbook. Trump is ”flooding the zone” using ICE to dominate headlines while quietly dismantling the systems that keep our communities safe, healthy, and whole. Virginia won’t fall for it—and we won’t stay silent.
