Rep. Krista Knudsen's Statement on this Weekend's Tragic Events
St. Paul, MN — Representative Krista Knudsen (R - Lake Shore) released the following statement:
"I am horrified by the evil attack that took place this weekend, and heartbroken beyond words by the loss of Speaker-Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark.
Melissa was a mother, daughter, wife, friend, and public servant and my heart breaks for all that are grieving this unthinkable act of violence. As a legislator, she was a formidable advocate for her priorities and a strong, bold leader of her caucus.
My prayers are also with Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette as they recover from this horrific attack.
I condemn in the strongest possible terms the violence that took Melissa and Mark from us. Political violence is abhorrent and unacceptable. I urge every Minnesotan to reject it unequivocally. My prayers are also with the men and women in law enforcement who are working to bring the perpetrator to justice.
There is no place for political violence in our state or our nation.
I’m relieved this nightmare is over and the suspected killer has been captured alive to answer questions, face charges and prosecution under the full weight of the law. Justice must be served. I’m deeply grateful to the dedicated local, state, and federal law enforcement officers who worked nonstop to make sure all other legislators were protected and this violent criminal was caught for the horror and terror he brought to our state."
