John, it’s Janet Mills, Governor of Maine, with a pressing message for you.

I know firsthand that the fight against Donald Trump’s extremism will come down to the states. That’s why electing Democratic governors has never been more important.

There will be 38 governors’ races over the next two years where we have the chance to send an unmistakable message to Trump and his MAGA allies about what we stand for. Donald Trump is trying to implement his dangerous agenda through threats and bullying. He even singled me out at a bipartisan meeting of governors and threatened to unilaterally withhold federal funding from Maine unless we complied with his personal demands.

Instead of backing down, I told him I’d see him in court. And then I followed through and beat him in court, restoring millions in funds for Maine schoolchildren.

My fight against Trump – as well as the fights of my fellow Democratic governors battling this administration in court – is proof that if we take action and push back, we can win.

We will not be intimidated by the President’s threats. We refuse to be bullied.

But with Trump doubling down on his extreme agenda, the fights ahead aren’t going to be easy, John. We’re going to need you with us every step of the way.
