Trump directs ICE to expand operations in large, Democratic-run cities, promising "the single largest mass deportation program in history"

In his ongoing quest to Make America White Again, Donald Trump is promising to supercharge his immigration crackdown into the "single largest mass deportation program in history," conveniently targeting large, urban metropolises he claims make up the nefarious "core of the Democrat Power Center." Following his thoroughly underwhelming birthday parade and the wildly successful "No Kings" protests that drew millions of patriots across the country, the MAGA cult leader was in a snippy mood, thumb-smashing on his social network: "We must expand efforts to detain and deport Illegal Aliens in America’s largest Cities, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, where Millions upon Millions of Illegal Aliens reside." The 79-year-old con man claimed Democrats were harboring immigrants in America's greatest cities to illegally expand their voter base, steal jobs from white people, and — why not — "grow the welfare state." It's unhinged, racist, and thoroughly disconnected from reality. In other words, vintage Trump.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Republicans caught attempting rig next election

In the latest episode of "Democracy Watch," Brian Tyler Cohen and Marc Elias discuss Texas Republicans' flagrant and decidedly undemocratic attempts to gerrymander their way to victory in upcoming elections to maintain the GOP's stranglehold on the rapidly diversifying Lone Star State.

New poll shows Iowa mechanic SURGING into the lead in must-win seat

Nathan Sage The GOP Senate’s utter refusal to do ANYTHING to stop Trump from trampling our rights and the rule of law makes it clear we need to put a spine back in Washington. That’s why mechanic, marine veteran, and local Iowa sports host Nathan Sage is launching a bid to unseat Trump-enabler Joni Ernst, fight for the needs of working-class Americans, and be the xxxxxx against the tides of fascism unleashed by Trump and his cronies. Will you chip in to help jump-start his campaign? A new poll has him leading by two points, 47-45!

Trump tells ABC News he's mulling an attack on Iran — says "we could get involved"
Nothing to see here, folks. Just the United States' commander-in-chief casually suggesting on national TV that our military might engage in the exploding conflict in the Middle East and launch an attack against Iran. Just days ago Donald was pleading with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from strikes against Tehran. Now we're openly pondering acts of war. CNN's Scott Jennings took things several thousand steps further into the illogical abyss, suggesting that a United States assault on Iran’s Fordo nuclear facility would somehow secure peace and merit the MAGA cult leader a Nobel Prize. What a difference a couple of days makes.

Take Action: Tell Congress: No strikes on Iran!

GOP Sen. Mike Lee jokes about Minnesota assassin targeting Democratic lawmakers on Twitter
Jeez, what's the big deal? Just a little pithy nüTwitter humor from a right-wing ideologue and sitting United States senator while law enforcement officers were engaged in a massive manhunt in Minnesota to apprehend a deranged, right-wing ideologue in the midst of a politically motivated murder spree. Snowflakes just can't take a joke!

Suspect in Minnesota shootings Vance Boelter arrested after "largest manhunt in state history"

Vance Boelter, the man suspected of assassinating one Minnesota lawmaker and shooting another over the weekend, is in police custody, ending a two-day manhunt, described as the largest in state history. Boelter, 57, was arrested Sunday and stands accused of fatally shooting Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, as well as wounding Democratic state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife at their respective homes on Saturday morning. Law enforcement agencies spent nearly 48 hours searching for Boelter, an evangelical Christian described as a "very conservative" opponent of abortion rights by his roommate. Boelter's vehicle and three AK-47 assault rifles were found near the scene of the second shooting along with a hit list of other politicians who happened to support reproductive rights. Boelter has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder.

Trump, in reversal, may exempt farms and hotels from immigration raids
After fielding complaints from farm owners and hotel executives alike, the MAGA cult leader is reportedly considering sparing farms and hotels from immigration raids. Because apparently, super scary immigrants are an existential threat to America... unless they're fluffing pillows and parking cars at the Four Seasons or picking avocados for our beloved guacamole. Priorities!

Meatpacking plant owner at a loss after ICE arrests 76 of his workers
Glenn Valley Foods President Chad Hartmann discovered quickly that "there's no playbook" for when ICE rolls in and arrests half your workforce. Many of his workers had worked there for over fifteen years; the process of re-hiring new workers, Hartmann said, feels like asking someone to replace a family member. "You cannot, in my mind...They were part of our family, and they were taken away." None of the arrested workers were charged with any crimes or had criminal records. News of the ICE raid sent a crippling, chilling effect across the city of Omaha. The local library and community college closed early on Tuesday. Construction sites and other workplaces have been desolate. South Omaha’s business district, known as a vibrant Hispanic and immigrant enclave, shut down immediately after the raid. The capricious cruelty of Trump's deportations is smothering our society across the board.

Protester shot and killed at "No Kings" rally in Utah, police say
A man believed to be part of a peacekeeping team for the “No Kings” protest in Salt Lake City shot at a person who was brandishing a rifle at demonstrators, striking both the rifleman and a bystander who later died at the hospital, authorities said Sunday. Police took the alleged rifleman, Arturo Gamboa, 24, into custody Saturday evening on a murder charge, Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd said at a Sunday news conference. The bystander was Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, 39. Detectives don't yet know why Gamboa pulled out a rifle or ran from the peacekeepers, but they accused him of creating the dangerous situation that led to Ah Loo’s death. The Utah chapter of the 50501 Movement, which helped organize the protests, did not immediately respond to AP questions about the peacekeeping team. It was unclear who hired them, whether they were volunteers or what their training was prior to the event. Redd said that the peacekeepers’ actions are also part of the investigation. The shooter and another person in a neon vest allegedly saw Gamboa separate from the crowd of marchers in downtown Salt Lake City, move behind a wall and withdraw a rifle around 8 pm, Redd said. When the two men in vests confronted Gamboa with their handguns drawn, witnesses said Gamboa raised his rifle into a firing position and ran toward the crowd. That’s when one of the men dressed in the vests shot three rounds, hitting Gamboa and Ah Loo, said Redd. Police said they recovered an AR-15 style rifle, a gas mask, and a backpack at the scene.

LAPD officer goes ballistic on ABC reporter during live broadcast at protest
Just another peaceful peace keeper peacefully keeping the peace. Hats off to ABC News correspondent Matt Gutman for maintaining his composure and de-escalating a needlessly tense situation. Perhaps the LAPD might considering bringing Gutman in as a consultant to teach members of the force how a professional effectively lowers the temperature.

Americans overwhelmingly want Trump to obey court rulings, but MAGA Republicans are split, according to new poll
What'd'ya know? Americans — by a large majority — aren't too keen on a wannabe dictator openly flouting court rulings and would much prefer our elected officials respect the judicial branch's authority. Except for one pesky group, of course. MAGA cult members appear evenly split, with 50% of the red-hat crowd saying Trump should simply ignore federal orders he doesn't agree with. Arbitrary law and selective order, folks!
