John:
Today, June 16, is International Domestic Workers Day, a day to honor the essential workers whose hands and hearts sustain our homes, nurture our families, and uphold the very fabric of this nation. But honoring isn't enough. Today is also a call to act.
Right now, a powerful opposition — the anti-care movement — is hard at work . Backed by billionaire interests and fueled by systemic racism and exploitation, this movement is doing everything it can to dismantle labor protections, block policy progress, and keep domestic, care, and immigrant workers invisible, undervalued, and unprotected.
But, we refuse to back down .
In the face of cruelty and chaos, we’re organizing — in living rooms, in legislatures, and in the streets — to win rights, recognition, and respect. At the heart of our movement is a bold vision: one where care is seen as the cornerstone of our economy and our humanity. That vision starts with passing the National Domestic Workers Bill of Rights [[link removed]] .
The National Domestic Workers Bill of Rights [[link removed]] lays out clear, enforceable protections: paid sick leave, protection from harassment and discrimination, the right to a written contract…the basic rights every worker deserves.

Domestic workers, most of them women of color and immigrants, care for our children, support our aging loved ones, and keep millions of households running smoothly. They do the important, intimate work that makes all other work possible. Yet, they've been deliberately shut out of basic labor rights , stuck in jobs that too often mean poverty wages and abuse.
This unfairness isn't new, and it's no accident. It’s the direct result of a system designed to devalue women of color and immigrant workers. The exploitation of domestic workers in America is directly tied to our country's dark past, a past steeped in racism, sexism, and systems meant to keep specific workers invisible.
Almost 90% of domestic workers don’t have a written agreement with their boss. More than half earn less than what it takes to live on, and far too many have no sick days, no protection if they speak up, and no way to report problems without risking their job.
That’s not just a missing policy, it’s a full-blown crisis of neglect. A deliberate one .
The National Domestic Workers Bill of Rights [[link removed]] is a key step toward fixing what was broken on purpose. It’s how we protect the women who care for our loved ones, and make sure care work is finally seen as the essential, skilled labor it is.
We’re not just fighting for a policy win. We’re fighting for the lives and livelihoods of the people who hold so much of this country together .
Sign the pledge to support the National Domestic Workers Bill of Rights and be part of the fight to bring domestic work out of the shadows and into the light [[link removed]] .
