John -- June is Pride month in America -- a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, recognize the vast inequalities and injustices they face, and honor their lives lost as a result of violence or HIV/AIDs. In the past week alone, we’ve had cause to celebrate and cause to keep fighting for equality and justice. On Monday, the Supreme Court declared that employers can no longer fire workers for who they are or who they love. It’s a huge win for the LGBTQ+ community, advocates, and our American values. It’s a great step to ensuring full lived equality for all Americans, but there is still tremendous work ahead of us. Because the truth is that the LGBTQ+ community is consistently under attack -- just last week, the Trump Administration eliminated health care protections for transgender patients. Not only is it outdated, un-American, and morally bankrupt to infringe on LGBTQ+ rights -- it also hurts our economy (you can read my op-ed detailing how by clicking here). We won’t stop fighting until all Americans are treated equally and fairly. Standing Tall for All, J.D. Scholten P.S.- Don’t have gear to celebrate pride yet?
