[ [link removed] ]Six Nineteen at the White House and across the Nation: This weekend of
6.19 - 6.21.
PFAW Member,
On June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Union
soldiers marched into Galveston, Texas and announced the news that the
Civil War had ended and that all of those who had been enslaved were now
free.
Tomorrow we celebrate Juneteenth, the holiday commemorating this important
event. It's a day of deep reflection, which is getting heightened
attention in the midst of the nationwide uprising against anti-Black
police violence and a reinvigorated movement for racial justice and
equity.
Please join PFAW staff, members, and allies across the country in marking
this date by taking some time to read about its significance and history.
There are many available online resources. Here is one:

Starting tomorrow and throughout Juneteenth weekend, the Movement for
Black Lives has organized a series of in-person and virtual 6.19 events,
including protests in front of the White House and all across the country.

getting out in the street to make our collective voice even louder in the
ongoing fight for justice >>
If you choose to attend an in-person event, please be safe – wear the mask
and do your best to adhere to the CDC's recommended [ [link removed] ]guidance about
social distancing.
There is much work to do in the fight for justice and equity, and I
believe that there is no better day to commit ourselves to this work than
Juneteenth.
I'm proud to work alongside you as we strive to make a better future for
our nation and the world.
Take care,
Ben Jealous, President
