Let’s jump into the details of this case in Texas:

• Texas’s congressional maps violate the Voting Rights Act by diluting the power of communities of color.

• Our affiliate, the National Redistricting Foundation (NRF), is supporting a group that is challenging the maps.

• The NRF is demanding that the Texas court order a fair congressional map that includes two additional Latino opportunity districts.

• Whites and Latinos were about equal in population size when the 2020 maps were drawn. The state drew 23 white-majority districts out of 38 total congressional districts. Latino voters made up majorities in only seven.

• The current unfair maps deprive Latino communities of their voice in deciding the direction of their state and the country.

• Now, the Trump White House is pressuring Texas lawmakers to further gerrymander the congressional map — another example of Trump trying to suppress votes in order to hold onto power.

Here’s the bottom line in Texas and in any state with unfair maps: We will fight so communities can have true representation in Congress.
