John,

After a decade of deliberate neglect under Trudeau, our armed forces have become a complete joke.

Mark Carney’s announcement that his government will invest $9B more and reach NATO’s current target of 2% of GDP devoted to defence spending this year, five years ahead of schedule, is therefore welcome news.

However, an even higher target of 3.5% of GDP is expected to be officially agreed to at the NATO summit in The Hague at the end of this month.

The main reason for this, as articulated by NATO chief Mark Rutte and mentioned by Carney, is that Russia could invade Europe within a few years and we need to be prepared.

This is utter nonsense and unjustified warmongering. Putin obviously has no wish and no capacity to wage a war against NATO.

This is just a pretext to fund NATO’s own indirect aggression against Russia.

NATO is supposed to be a defensive alliance but is turning into an offensive one.

Perhaps it’s time to rethink our participation in it if it means further bankrupting ourselves to fund and support this reckless pro-war agenda.

As the war in Ukraine rages on, and a new conflict has just begun in the Middle East, I want to reiterate my position in the clearest way possible:

Canada has NO BUSINESS getting involved in these foreign wars.

Canadians should not pay a cent in taxes to support one side or the other.

No Canadian soldier should die in support of one side or the other.

These are not our wars.

Liberals and Conservatives both want to continue our involvement in the war in Ukraine.

And Poilievre would probably get us involved in the Middle East on the side of Israel.

John, help the People’s Party be the Canadian voice for peace and non-intervention with a $20 donation today!
