Washington, DC - OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates believes unequivocally that Black lives matter. OCA released the following statement re-emphasizing support and advocacy for Black and Brown Communities:
We demand justice for the countless number of Black lives lost to police brutality. We must recognize that these tragedies to the Black community are not isolated incidents, but are manifestations of the deep-seated problem of systemic racism that affects our communities as well. We stand with the Black community and commit to continuing the fight for racial justice and equity. We also call on our OCA family and friends, and the AAPI community at large, to take action in any way they can to support the movement to dismantle white supremacy and institutionalized racism.
June 19th is known also as Juneteenth; the significance of this day is immeasurable to Black communities in the United States. On this day in 1865, US Union forces arrived in Texas declaring that the Civil War was over that all enslaved persons were free. Juneteenth is recognized nationally as the day commemorating the end of slavery.
OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates is a national civil rights organization dedicated to improving the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs).
