John, when I was a little girl, I looked up to my dad as someone who always cared for me and my brother and sister. He helped us learn how to be strong, smart and kind. So when I got married, it was my hope that Jonathan would be a great dad too.
Our goal was to raise our boys, Theo and Henry, into adults with strong character and good integrity. I’d like to think we succeeded at that as a team.
When I was considering running for office, Jonnie told me: “As long as you’re making a difference, as long as you’re helping people, this is something we’re going to do.” He uses that same mindset when it comes to our sons taking risks and overcoming fears.
Because of dads like Jonnie, moms like me can have successful careers — and even get elected to the U.S. Senate. But we need to make it possible for more families to succeed, and that's what my work in the Senate is all about.
So, happy Father’s Day to my husband Jonnie, and to all the supportive and hardworking dads out there.
With love and gratitude,
Kirsten
