In an article about our efforts to get Senator Toomey to support SR 42, the Senate version of the background check bill that passed the House earlier this year with bipartisan support, Senator Toomey accuses CeaseFirePA of flip-flopping. The Senator seems confused. We’ve been consistent in supporting a strong background check bill that will close loopholes and not weaken other parts of our gun laws. That bill is SR 42. The Manchin-Toomey bill from 2013 is not the right bill for 2019. Also, Senator Toomey hasn’t even introduced a background check bill this session, he’s just talking about maybe introducing the old bill. Finally, the real flip-flopper is President Trump, who once again has backed away from supporting any measures to strengthen gun laws. We have one mission: to reduce the epidemic of gun violence.
