Abolitionist Organizing Wins Again!
LA County Terminates Contract for Mental Health Jail Construction
Last week, Critical Resistance Los Angeles, the Justice LA coalition, and LA communities celebrated a monumental victory against new jail construction! After years of our community organizing and pressure against a multi-billion dollar jail expansion plan, the LA County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to end plans for the construction of a new mental health jail! Heeding community demands of "Care Not Cages," the Supervisors voted to explore building a decentralized, community-based system of care across LA.
The task in front of us now is to ensure that the County follows through on resourcing decentralized, community-based care – and that those resources truly reflect the communities who are directly impacted by the prison industrial complex. Read more here about the victory.

Our Grassroots Summer Fundraiser raised over $23,000!
Your generous gifts made this our most successful midyear campaign yet.
Your grassroots support keeps our organizing efforts alive. With your support, we raised a fierce $24,407 in our July summer fundraising campaign, surpassing our $22,000 goal by over $2,000! Big appreciation to all of our supporters, members, and volunteers who pitched in. These donations will help us meet the growing demands of our campaigns, projects and movement to eliminate the violence of policing, imprisonment, surveillance, and the prison industrial complex (PIC) as a whole.
Gifts from donors like you make it possible for CR to run campaigns and projects against the prison industrial complex and create a healthier, more liberated future. Critical Resistance (CR) is majority grassroots funded (meaning the majority of our budget is resourced by individuals like you) and we greatly appreciate you keeping our financial base diverse and grassroots-anchored.
P.S. Still want to support? Donate to the CRLA community ticket fund in the event, below! Your gifts will support youth and low-income seats at the event. (Go to the ticket link; the donation option is in the ticket list.)
