Republicans across the country voted to gut Medicaid. And in Iowa, where thousands of residents rely on Medicaid, every single one of our Republican representatives voted in favor of these cuts.

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks even went as far to say “They may lose coverage, but that’s their choice to lose coverage.”

Let’s be clear: Stripping away healthcare coverage is not a “choice.” There is no justification or explanation for cutting over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the ACA. Republicans lack empathy and accountability to their constituents — that’s it.

Iowans should know that their elected officials voted to kick them off their healthcare plans and shut down rural hospitals so that the ultra-wealthy could get more tax breaks. And we think it's important to be the first to tell them.
