Coronavirus still poses a huge threat [link removed] CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS and Urge Them to Protect Older Adults! DearJohn, Older Americans need more help during the coronavirus pandemic! They are dying at alarming rates, especially in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. In fact, 8 out of 10 deaths from the coronavirus in the U.S. have been adults 65 years old and older. Although the previous coronavirus relief legislative packages have been an important start, we need a more robust federal response to protect the health and well-being of older adults, family caregivers, direct care workers, communities of color and the professional health and social services workforce.
That's why we need to make our views heard today! Please pick up your phone right now and call the National Committee's toll-free Legislative Hotline at (800) 998-0180. The Hotline will connect you directly with your U.S. Senators. Please tell them: Congress must provide more funding to ensure all facilities have enough personal protective equipment, and to support services and meals to help older adults remain in their homes.
The Leadership Council of Aging Organizations (LCAO), a coalition of 69 national nonprofit organizations dedicated to the well-being of older Americans, has organized this national Call-In Campaign. And the National Committee is proud of our current role as Chairing organization for the LCAO at a time when seniors are under threat from the coronavirus pandemic and proposals that would erode their basic financial and health security.

As the National Committee works with our allies on both sides of the political aisle to ensure the next coronavirus relief legislation passed by Congress addresses the critical needs of older Americans, we're also fending off renewed attacks on Social Security and Medicare. In fact, President Trump continues to pursue his reckless payroll tax cut proposal that would undermine seniors' earned benefits. At the same time, we're funneling significant resources into boosting and expanding earned benefits during this time of crisis.

With so much at stake, and things moving so quickly in Washington, I need you to please act right now! Call your U.S. Senators through our hotline at (800) 998-0180 and tell them the next coronavirus relief bill they pass must include adequate funding to meet the needs of older adults to help them survive this pandemic — and it must also address the disproportionate death and infections being sustained by communities of color! Make no mistake, our opponents are looking for ways to reduce our government's obligations to older Americans, even during this crisis, and so we must remain vocal and vigilant. Conveying your opinions to your U.S. Senators, particularly when they're most attuned to their constituents' needs in this crucial election year, is an important first step.
          Sincerely, Max Richtman
