Dear Neighbor,
This week, I’ve been fighting on two fronts — pushing back against Trump’s ICE raids targeting working mom, dads, and young people, and pushing for pro-family policies as part of my Father’s Day Week of Action.
Here’s a quick recap of my work this week: - Demanded entry into ICE facility to conduct congressional oversight
- Organized fellow California Democrats in calling out Trump's dangerous military deployment
- Father's Day Week Kickoff
- If it can happen to US Senator Alex Padilla, it can happen to anyone
- Celebrated this year's Dads Caucus Ambassadors, including Governor Tim Walz

Demanded entry into ICE facility to conduct congressional oversight
|
Twice I demanded entry into the Roybal Federal Building in downtown LA to investigate reports of ICE's inhumane detention of immigrant families. Myself and other Members of Congress were denied entry to inspect the facility, despite explicit legal authority to do so. Trump and ICE aren't going after the criminals they said they would—these are moms and kids — some being held without beds, food, or water for over 24 hours. We have to continue to shine a light on the Trump administration harmful actions, and in the meantime I will continue to demand full access to the facility, the names of those who blocked us, and compliance with the law at all DHS facilities nationwide.

Organized fellow California Democrats in calling out Trump's dangerous military deployment
|
I united with my fellow California Democrats to call out Trump's unprecedent move to federalize the national guard without consent of the governor. Not only is this a dangerous abuse of power, but it further escalated tensions in the city. Where was Trump when 50,000 violent insurrectionists invaded the Capitol on January 6, when rioters scaled the Capitol Walls and violently assaulted Capitol Police officers? Trump is suppressing our community’s right to public assembly and protest, and I feel that it’s just the beginning of these repressive tactics. That's why I will continue to stand up for our community, and for people peacefully exercising their constitutional rights.

Father's Day Week Kick Off
|
I hosted a candid fireside conversation with other pro-family advocates about what fatherhood means to us. We discussed how we can use our lived experience to push for policies that support working parents like paid leave, affordable childcare, and the child tax credit. It was a powerful reminder that the personal is political — and that dads have a role to play in shaping a better future for all families. Thanks to Equimundo, 4 Kira 4 Moms, and Brooklyn Stroll Club's Joe Gonzales for a thoughtful Fathers Day Week of Action discussion!

If it can happen to US Senator Alex Padilla, it can happen to anyone
|
When my friend and colleague California Senator Alex Padilla was unjustly arrested for simply trying to get answers on behalf of the people of our state, I knew I had to stand up and speak out! If the Trump administration will assault and handcuff a sitting U.S. Senator, it can happen to anyone. This is about more than one protest, it’s about the criminalization of peaceful dissent and the dangerous precedent Trump is setting. I’ll always stand with Alex, and with our right to peacefully protest.

Celebrated this year's Dads Caucus Ambassadors, including Governor Tim Walz
|
To cap off our Father's Day week of action, I was proud to recognize everyday dads doing extraordinary things. These dads are caregivers, organizers, teachers, and even a governor, Mr. Tim Walz, who go above and beyond to support their families and communities. In a moment when too many elected leaders claim to support families while slashing the very programs they rely on, these dads embody what real leadership and responsibility look like.

Jimmy Gomez Member of Congress
