Brazil is selling off parts of the Amazon Rainforest to fossil fuel
companies.^1

But oil and gas development doesn’t happen without a huge influx of money,
and U.S.-based bank JPMorgan Chase is one of the TOP funders of fossil
fuel exploration in the Amazon.^2

The Amazon plays a critical role in regulating our climate by absorbing
greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. It’s also essential for wildlife,
biodiversity, and countless communities. We can’t afford to lose the
benefits of this vital ecosystem for the sake of corporate profits.

Drilling in the area that’s being sold off would increase Brazil’s oil
production by an estimated 10 billion barrels.^3 If we’re truly going to
solve the climate crisis, we need to eliminate our reliance on dirty
fossil fuels — not drill and burn even more.

Indigenous Peoples and Brazilian activists oppose more drilling in the
Amazon — and supporters like you helped amplify their voices and
strengthened the fight. But there’s so much more we can do, including
calling on U.S.-based funders of fossil fuel development in the Amazon to
drop out.

U.S. banks like JPMorgan Chase claim to fight biodiversity loss and
exploitation of Indigenous Peoples, while bankrolling fossil fuel
projects. It’s greenwashing, plain and simple.^4 They should be using
their resources to promote a just transition from fossil fuels to
renewable energy — not further destroying our climate by turning the
Amazon into a carbon bomb.
