It’s Animal Sanctuary Caregiver Day!

Today, AAVS proudly honors the compassionate individuals who make a difference every day. We’ve all seen touching videos of rescued animals and imagined how joyful it must be to care for them. And while sanctuary work can be incredibly fulfilling, it’s also tough, requiring a rare kind of dedication and heart.

Sanctuary caregivers go far beyond feeding and cleaning—they build deep bonds with the animals they care for. They know each one’s personality, quirks, and history. They celebrate small victories, mourn losses, and provide a sense of home and healing for animals who have endured trauma. The work is intense—emotionally and physically—and often involves long days, challenging conditions, and specialized care.

We are profoundly thankful for the staff and volunteers at sanctuaries who give chimpanzees, monkeys, farmed animals, and others the safety, dignity, and compassion they deserve. Your commitment does not go unnoticed—THANK YOU for everything you do!

Join us in celebrating Animal Sanctuary Caregiver Day and recognizing the vital role these caregivers play for animals formerly used research. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, AAVS has awarded over $4.5 million in grants to help sanctuaries provide excellent care and support for their dedicated teams.

We’re grateful to have you with us—thank you for your continued compassion!
