Religious Exemption Rights Gain Ground

Courtroom Progress, Federal Support
and Action YOU can Take TODAY!

Major momentum is building in the fight to restore religious exemptions for school vaccine mandates. A surge of federal, legal, and grassroots activity is strengthening the case for religious liberty across the country—and those already engaged in this effort are making a real impact.

Here is a summary of the significant developments that have unfolded over the past few weeks:

🔥 White House Affirms Religious Exemptions

At a White House Press Briefing, Amanda Head of Just the News asked whether the President supports religious exemptions for childhood vaccines in all 50 states. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded unequivocally:  “The President supports religious exemptions.” This is a significant endorsement that directly backs the legal fight AVFCA is leading in California.

📣 AVFCA Lawsuits in California

A Voice for Choice Advocacy is actively pursuing two lawsuits challenging California’s SB 277, which stripped away personal belief and religious exemptions for school vaccines.

Most recently, on June 5, 2025, AVFCA’s attorneys presented arguments in court on the Motion to Dismiss our Second Amended Complaint. The Court was well-prepared and dug deep into both procedural and constitutional questions—particularly the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. The judge appeared receptive and curious, hinting at the potential for higher court review. A ruling is expected soon.

📝 Working with Federal Advocates

AVFCA has been collaborating with Elyse Young from Guiding the Impact in New York, to urge the newly created Religious Liberty Commission to address unconstitutional policies in New York, California, Connecticut, and Maine that deny religious exemptions to childhood vaccination requirements, discriminating against religious families by barring their children from education and healthcare. It requests specific recommendations in the Commission’s report to restore religious freedom through executive and legislative actions, initiate legal action against these states, and protect access to medical care for religious families.
