DIVING INTO BUDGET RECONCILIATION:
Reconciliation: you might be hearing this word a lot or seeing it on the news, but what does it mean? Senator Kim released a new video this week that breaks down the reconciliation process and answers 3 questions that might be on your mind:
- What is budget reconciliation?
- What is it used for?
- How is it different from other pieces of legislation?
Watch and share the Senator’s full video here.
Budget reconciliation hasn’t been around forever. It was introduced fifty years ago, and is a tool used by the Senate to fast-track budget bills with big policy implications—for good or for bad. In the past, Democrats have used budget reconciliation to pass the Affordable Care Act and lower costs for prescription drugs. Now, Republicans are trying to use this process to pass $4.5 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans while cutting healthcare for 16 million Americans.
In the Senate, I’m continuing to fight for the things that matter most: healthcare for those who need it, food assistance for American families, and paths to afford college and other higher education opportunities.
