Hi John,
Just days ago, the Trump administration said it has the right to abolish national monuments.
We know what's next: attempting to open more public lands like Grand Staircase-Escalante or areas near the Grand Canyon for mining, drilling and logging.
But no such right exists. Any attack on national monuments must be fought.
The Center is ready to safeguard national monuments and public lands — and the species within them.
Please give today to the Future for the Wild Fund. Thanks to generous champions of wildlife, all gifts will be doubled, but only through June 15.
As soon as the second Trump administration took office, it unleashed a horrific onslaught on the wild.
It declared bogus emergencies to justify ramping up extractive industries in some of the most pristine, biodiverse habitats on Earth.
And it's made clear that public lands are up for sale to the highest bidder. This week, the Senate agreed to open a sale of 3 million acres of public lands. This is nothing but a give-away to industry and developers.
The Center has been just as quick to respond, launching legal action nearly every four days to protect animals, plants and habitat.
Now it appears our fight will include defending national monuments. A newly released memo by the U.S. Department of Justice claims — wrongly — that the president has the authority to abolish monuments that previous presidents have protected from energy development.
We must hold the line for the wild and all that belongs to us.
There's a long road ahead as we fight to save life on Earth. We're ready for this moment, and our promise to you is we won't stop.
Because the forces we're up against are so ruthless, please start a monthly donation to sustain our defense of the natural world.
For the wild,
