Dear Friend,
“I receive a government subsidy for my Marketplace (Affordable Care Act)
insurance. I could not afford any insurance without it. I am stretched
very thin financially as I have all the regular bills a person has. I
barely make my mortgage, pay the gas, electric, and water bills along with
my health insurance.”

What’s happening? Tens of millions of us rely on the Affordable Care Act
(ACA) for quality, affordable health care coverage through Healthcare.gov.
But the Republican spending bill currently being considered by Congress
will hike premiums for millions of middle-class families by up to 90%,
increase cost sharing for privately insured people by $900 per family, end
Medicaid expansion as we know it, and codify Trump’s sabotage of
Marketplace coverage, leaving millions without life-saving health care
coverage. [1,2] [ [link removed] ]This is not ok!
Right now, the U.S. Senate is working on this spending bill that will rip
health coverage away from 16 million middle- and low-income Americans by
slashing hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars from our health care.
[ [link removed] ] These deep cuts are literally life-and-death, ripping coverage away
from seniors, children, people with disabilities, new parents, and
hard-working families. A recent study showed that these cuts will lead to
over 51,000 preventable deaths PER YEAR! [ [link removed] ] In addition, the bill will
worsen the availability and quality of health care coverage for ALL OF US
by putting 338 rural hospitals at risk of closing and allowing insurance
companies to hike up deductibles and other cost-sharing and removing
regulations, including people with employer-based coverage. [5,6]

While the budget and tax bill slashes red tape for corporations and makes
it easier for them to rip off families with junk plans, it also introduces
miles of red tape for struggling Americans to get health insurance with
mountains of paperwork and enrollment hurdles. In addition, the bill
decimates the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act by
taking away critical financial incentives for states that expanded
Medicaid and penalizing states that offer health care to immigrants out of
their own budgets. [ [link removed] ] To add an extra dose of cruelty, the bill punishes
people who lose Medicaid coverage due to paperwork requirements by making
them ineligible for Marketplace subsidies to buy their own coverage, thus
locking them out of health coverage altogether! [ [link removed] ]
At a time when families are struggling to pay their bills, Republicans in
Congress are looking to raise the cost of health care and slash funding
for programs like the ACA and Medicaid, all to give MASSIVE tax breaks to
billionaires and big corporations. Republicans are breaking the promises
they made to the American people to lower costs for families, and we must
tell them, [4]NOT ON OUR WATCH!

Dear Congress,
The proposed cuts to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Medicaid are
unacceptable. Parents know all too well that having health care coverage
is often a matter of life-and-death. In fact, a recent study showed that
these cuts will lead to over 51,000 preventable deaths PER YEAR. Not on
our watch!
Cutting people off of Marketplace coverage and Medicaid by slashing
funding and increasing red tape is cruel. Moreover, the reconciliation
bill will worsen the availability and quality of health care coverage for
ALL OF US by putting 338 rural hospitals at risk of closing and allowing
insurance companies to hike up deductibles and other cost-sharing and
removing regulations—including for people with employer-based coverage.
We will not stand for you to cut vital health care programs, ripping
health care coverage away from millions of families, and increasing health
care costs for all of us, all while giving massive tax cuts to those who
need them least.
We oppose the dismantling of the protections of the Affordable Care Act,
decimation of Medicaid, and raising the cost of health care for everyone.
