John,
We're in the midst of a revolution for justice.
George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and Rayshard Brooks—added to the long list of Black lives lost needlessly. We are standing against systems built on white supremacy and anti-Blackness, holding elected officials accountable, and working to end the criminalization of marginalized communities. But if we want true change, then we must also call out the internalized white supremacy and anti-Blackness in our own communities.
On Monday, June 22 at 5:30PM ET, we will host Healing Within: Discussing Anti-Blackness Within Communities of Color, a conversation with Michigan Senator Erika Geiss, Papa Dia, founder of the African Leadership Group, and Freeport School Board Member Gabriela Castillo. By sharing their personal experiences as leaders, people of color, and advocates for justice, they will help us recognize how communities of color can unintentionally uphold these systems of oppression and learn how we can take steps towards healing and uniting. Will you commit to joining us for this critically important conversation?
We know that these are tough conversations to have. But if we want to truly dismantle systems of oppression and be part of the movement for our collective liberation, then we must hold ourselves and our communities accountable.
Yours in the fight,
Kiana Abbady
