John,

I was shocked and horrified by the video of my friend, Senator Alex Padilla, handcuffed on the ground in Los Angeles today -- while trying to do his job.

He has an office in the same federal building where Secretary Kristi Noem was briefing the press. He walked over to demand answers about her actions affecting millions in California and beyond. He was exercising congressional oversight which is our right and our responsibility.

I’ve known Alex for over 20 years. He’s honorable, passionate, and committed to public service.

If a sitting U.S. Senator can end up handcuffed and pinned to the floor for asking tough questions, it can happen to ANYONE.

Whether you are Republican or Democrat, you should condemn this. I stand with Senator Padilla.

Secretary Noem needs to answer our questions -- not silence them.
