LULAC RESPONDS SWIFTLY TO OMAHA IMMIGRATION RAID, ENGAGES COMMUNITY AND LEADERS
TOWARD LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS
===============================================================================

Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Stands With Affected
Families and Commits to Bipartisan Dialogue for Immigration Reform

Omaha, NE – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) swiftly
mobilized to Omaha, Nebraska, following a mass immigration enforcement raid that
took place Tuesday at the Glenn Valley Foods meat processing plant. The raid, led
by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), resulted in the detention and
removal of more than 75 Latino workers and has sent shockwaves through the local
immigrant community.

The operation reportedly involved multiple federal agencies, including the
Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and
U.S. Marshals. The scale and secrecy of the raid left many in fear and confusion,
prompting local leaders to call on LULAC for assistance.

"We came to Omaha to listen, learn, and engage with local leaders," said Roman
Palomares, LULAC national president and chairman of the board. "We extend our
hand to assist in any way possible and share the information we gathered with
elected leaders in Washington, D.C. Our goal is to work together in a bipartisan
manner to create a path forward—one that upholds our economic strength while
ensuring community safety and security."

On Wednesday, Palomares and former LULAC national president Hector Flores led a
delegation in high-level meetings with Mayor John Ewing Jr. and Omaha Police
Chief Todd Schmaderer, who confirmed that local law enforcement was informed of
the federal action only hours before it occurred and was asked to assist solely
with traffic control. Both city officials reassured LULAC that the Omaha Police
Department remains focused on public safety, not immigration enforcement.

"We are satisfied that we are in alignment with the city's leadership," said
Palomares. "Maintaining trust with our immigrant community is essential. We
commend the mayor and police chief for affirming their commitment to that trust
and encouraging residents to continue working with local officers for their own
safety."

Additional meetings were held with Nebraska State Senators Margo Juarez and
Dunixi Guereca, as well as former State Senator and community leader Tony Vargas.
Also, the LULAC delegation held key business briefings with Heath Mello,
President of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, Roger Garcia, President of
the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, and Chief Deputy of Operations Will
Niemack of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. LULAC also met with Congressman
Don Bacon's office representatives and Mike McDonnell, President of the Nebraska
AFL-CIO.

"This is not going to happen overnight," said Palomares. "But we have to start
somewhere. At the heart of our country's breadbasket, Omaha, Nebraska, offers a
real chance to model a new way forward that prioritizes our economy, safety, and
humanity over partisan politics."
