My love's like the warmth of the sun
(Warmth of the sun)
It won't ever die
Everyone has their favorite Beach Boys song. “California Girls,” “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” and dozens of others can each make the case for the band’s greatest single. I was introduced to the Beach Boys music at an early age in the 1970s. My parents had the Beach Boys “Endless Summer” LP, a 1974 collection of hits from the band's 1962–65 period. To me, this album was magic. The cover is mystical in and of itself. It features an artist’s technicolor rendition of the Wilson brothers framed against a cresting wave with their faces peering through beach flora in the foreground. It was a double album, with five perfect songs on each side. I love every one of these songs. But the one track that absolutely floors me is “The Warmth of the Sun

,” which Brian Wilson and cousin Mike Love began writing the day of the John F. Kennedy assassination.
