LEGISLATIVE UPDATE:
NOTE: This is being written and submitted for print on Tuesday night (6/10/2025). This is a fluid process, and I am updating as of this time.
The House and the Senate passed a concurrent resolution (HCR 1635) to end session on June 18 at midnight. The Senate Committee on Appropriations Chair Ed Hooper and House Budget Committee Chair Lawrence McClure stated that they are close. They and their teams are working day and night working through the differences in the budgets between the House and the Senate and are making good progress.
There is a constitutionally mandated “72 hour cooling off period” for the legislators to review the final budget before the vote, ensuring transparency. After the House and Senate finish negotiations, the final budget document is printed and distributed. The 72-hour period begins once the budget is officially provided to lawmakers. For example, if the budget is distributed on a Friday afternoon, the earliest a vote can occur is the following Monday afternoon. The uncorroborated rumor is that this is the timetable they are hoping for and will be calling for a vote on Monday.
