John,
In the first time since 1965 that a president has sent in the National Guard against a governor’s will, Trump is deploying 4,000 National Guard soldiers and 700 Marines to Los Angeles.
This is a massive, dangerous escalation and illegal abuse of power meant to suppress our right to protest. We must speak out to condemn Trump’s illegal actions before he deploys troops in other cities.
I’ll be joining my district’s residents at anti-Trump protests this weekend, which coincide with his outrageous birthday military parade featuring tanks and helicopters. Find which of the 2,000 nationwide No Kings rallies is closest to you here.
Too many of my colleagues in Congress have been silent as Trump uses the military against civilian U.S. protesters. They must forcefully push back against Trump’s fascist attacks on our rights.
Please add your name to call on Congress: Denounce Trump’s illegal deployment of the military against U.S. protesters. Defend our First Amendment right to protest!
Members of Congress should also vote to block Trump’s actions—including by withholding financial support.
But my Republican colleagues in Congress are trying to pass a budget reconciliation bill that would steal $1 trillion from our communities in order to expand Trump’s deportation machine, increase militarization, and grow profits for corporations and billionaires.
And right now, Trump is wasting $134 million of our tax dollars to send troops to Los Angeles. Our government must invest in our communities, not in attacking our constitutional rights.
As LA resident Daniel Fabiano told CNN, “Having troops in a civilian American neighborhood does not make anyone safer at all.”
Trump’s order to mobilize troops against civilian protesters in LA also included a first-ever pre-emptive authorization from a president to deploy the military in future U.S. protests.
Which means that what he’s doing in LA could soon spread to other cities—unless we make enough noise to stop it.
Sign to demand Congressmembers denounce Trump’s illegal, unprecedented deployment of troops against U.S. protesters. Tell Congress: Speak out against this unprecedented attempt to squash our right to dissent!
Thank you for continuing to advocate for our communities and our fundamental rights, including our right to due process and free speech.
With you in the fight against fascism,
Rashida
