Dear John,
We commissioned a poll to find out what Texas voters think about sex
education … and the results are in!
When asked what should be taught in public schools, 75% of poll
respondents, including 68% of Republicans, support teaching abstinence-plus
sex education, defined as curricula that "teaches students abstinence is
the safest choice, but also provides medically accurate information about
topics such as contraception, prevention of sexually transmitted
infections, and healthy relationships."
Voters were also strongly supportive of sex education that teaches about
consent, including respecting the boundaries of other people, and is
inclusive of LGBTQ youth.
Sex education can seem like a hot button issue. But poll results show that
the vast majority of Texas voters support common-sense information to keep
our students safe and healthy.
This year we have the opportunity to improve sex education standards. See
the full poll results and learn more at texasisready.org or watch this
short video [2] (also en Español) [3]. To support our work, please make a
