Dear Neighbor,
I hope you’re enjoying the start of summer. I wanted to share an update on the recently completed 2025 legislative session — one that was historic, challenging, and concluded with a balanced state budget for the next two years.
In divided government, Minnesotans expect us to come together, govern, and pass a state budget — and that’s the work that we completed. A true compromise means no one gets everything they want, and this budget reflects that reality.
Furthermore, DFLers successfully blocked Republican efforts to roll back laws that help to make Minnesota a great place to live, work, and raise a family, including paid family leave, universal school meals, and reproductive freedom. Nearly every single DFL accomplishment from the 2023-2024 session remains in effect. DFLers worked hard to fund state government and the essential services Minnesotans rely on, all the while fighting against the policies Republicans sought as they stood with billionaires and worked to mirror Donald Trump’s cruel agenda.
Information about the bills passed during the June 9th special session, including bill language and spreadsheets, can be found here.
The 2025 legislative session may be over, but let’s make one thing very clear: we will continue to fight back against the cuts Republicans in Congress and Donald Trump are proposing and will do all we can to ensure they do not harm Minnesota families. Our top priority is to change a status quo that is tilted against everyday Minnesotans in order to lower the cost of living for hardworking families on things like housing, child care, and health care.
As always, please contact me anytime with your input. You can reach me at 651-296-4280 or [email protected]. You can also keep up with what’s happening at the Capitol by liking my legislative Facebook page. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Melissa Hortman
