Stop the big bad budget bill!
|
Dear Friend,
If, like me, you are following the ongoing budget battle in Congress, you already know that the proposal from the House and supported by the Trump administration would be a massive transfer of wealth from the poor to corporate interests and the wealthy.
Yes, the Trump administration and its billionaire backers are trying their best to gut the governmental programs and policies that protect our health, our lives, and the environment. Why? So they can suck up even more profit and consolidate even more power. And the result will be more people who can’t access health care and food, fewer programs and services that support and protect communities, and billions of dollars of critical funding will be funneled to weapons contractors, private prison profiteers, and the administration’s billionaire backers.
It’s unacceptable, and we’re speaking out and demanding that our elected officials listen to the voices of people like you who do not want to see this dangerous and destructive budget passed.
So, will you join us? We are taking on some of the most powerful corporations in the world, and to do that, we have to stand up to a U.S. government and a budget that emboldens and entrenches the staggering power those corporations already have.
But doing this kind of campaigning isn’t without real risk, and we need your support to keep doing it. Will you donate right now to ensure we can keep the pressure up and defeat this terrible budget?

Here’s the thing. We know we can win. Even in dangerous times. And even against the combined force of transnational corporations and the political figures that do their bidding. Because we’ve done it before.
Even in this budget fight, we’ve notched a victory. Earlier this month, a U.S. House committee voted to include language in the budget that would have given the secretary of the Treasury the power to target any entity as a “terrorist-supporting organization” -- no matter what it actually does -- and potentially strip them of their tax-exempt status. The provision was dubbed the “nonprofit killer” and would have widened the avenues for this regime to go after its political enemies.
It was the third attempt since late last year to pass this provision. But thanks to swift action by members like you, in combination with other activists and allied organizations, the “nonprofit killer” language was taken out of the budget bill. And we must make sure it stays out.
Corporate Accountability has weathered hostile political moments before. And we have a long history of challenging some of the most dangerous entities on the planet: transnational corporations. We are prepared for this moment and steadfast in our mission to challenge corporate power; protect people and the planet; and defend the freedom of people and movements to organize, speak out, and drive change.
And in this moment, that means we’re standing against a dangerous budget. But we need you with us. Will you donate today to ensure we have the resources and support we need to keep taking on the administration’s attempts to enrich and empower its corporate allies and backers?

Corporate Accountability stops transnational corporations from devastating democracy, trampling human rights, and destroying our planet. We are building a world rooted in justice where corporations answer to people, not the other way around -- a world where every person has access to clean water, healthy food, a safe place to live, and the opportunity to reach their full human potential.
