Dear John,
We want democracy and freedom in Los Angeles and across California—just like people everywhere in this country. And like people everywhere who believe in those values, we think they’re worth fighting for.
Today, when federal agents violently attacked U.S. Senator Alex Padilla—an Angeleno, a son of Mexican immigrants, and the first Latino to represent California in the Senate—they confirmed what we’ve been saying all along: the Trump administration is invading LA, and they’ll use force to do it—even against an elected Senator.
Padilla was doing the job we elected him to do: asking questions, seeking answers, and standing with his constituents.
Just before agents threw him to the ground and handcuffed him, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem made the Trump administration’s intentions crystal clear:
“We’re not going away. We are going to liberate the city from the burdensome leadership, mayor and governor.”
Senator Padilla is a U.S. Senator elected overwhelmingly by the people. Noem is threatening to remove our democratically elected leaders.
This is not just about immigration. This is not about public safety. This is an attack on democracy.
When ICE agents came for our neighbors, families, and friends on June 6th—armed like they were at war—they brought terror to our schools, neighborhoods, and workplaces. And we responded the way Angelenos and Californians always do: by standing up for each other.
Regardless of our race and whether you’re from San Diego, LA, the Bay, the IE, the Central Coast, Sacramento, or the Central Valley—we refuse to be divided. The Trump administration isn’t just targeting immigrants or California. They’re targeting the idea of democracy itself.
And we’re not backing down. Spread the word and help STOP TRUMP’S INVASION
In Solidarity,
We Are California
