On Monday, the Minnesota Legislature convened for a special session that stretched into Tuesday morning for our friends in the Senate. The House wrapped up just before 11pm after successfully passing all the remaining budget bills to fund our state government through 2027.
All session long, Minnesota Republicans have taken pages upon pages straight out of the Trump playbook instead of actually working with us to solve problems. They defied the Constitution, created unnecessary division, and pushed policies that actively hurt working families – all to protect billionaires and big corporations.
The GOP's top priority? Stripping health insurance away from Minnesotans without legal status. They were willing to blow up the entire state budget to make it happen. This kind of cruelty doesn't just hurt the communities they're targeting; it hurts all of us. When hospitals and emergency rooms don't get paid for emergency services, we all feel it.
In addition to this bill being outright cruel, it is also woefully un-Christian, a brand that the GOP both brandishes and hides behind when doing wrong onto their own neighbors. It’s exhausting watching the other side of the aisle use religion when its convenient for their policies and turn a blind eye when it doesn’t fit their narrative. I called out their hypocrisy on the House Floor.

I refuse to support a bill that takes away vital services not just from my constituents, but from so many across the entire state. This vote was a clear and simple decision between right and wrong, and it’s heartbreaking to see this wrong prevail. Everyone deserves to live with dignity and safety. That includes access to healthcare, full stop. My vote was NO.
This fight isn't over. This is a setback, not a defeat. We're not backing down from fighting for everyone in our community. The good news is that when we stick together, we can get things done. Even with Republicans trying to undercut policies that help working families instead of billionaires, we successfully blocked their attempts to roll back laws that let people take care of themselves and their loved ones when they're sick, save families money on groceries, make sure kids don't go hungry at school, protect our 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and protect reproductive freedom.
The 2025 session might be done, but the work definitely isn't. I'm going to keep fighting for our community, our families, and our values throughout the interim. As I do, I want to hear from you – please keep reaching out to share what matters most to you.
