John,

Before I came to Congress, I served on my local school board. That’s when I learned that every day, 1 in 8 Pennsylvania kids go to school hungry. And when a child is experiencing hunger pangs at school, they cannot learn. They cannot reach their full potential.

This is the kind of solvable problem I came to Congress to address.

But instead of offering these children the food they need to succeed and thrive, the Trump Administration is taking away food benefits from nearly 90,000 Pennsylvania families in our district. The rationale behind these cuts is even more grotesque: the Trump team proposed cutting $300 billion in nutrition benefits and $715 billion in healthcare benefits for the most vulnerable Americans in order to provide tax breaks for the wealthiest among us (like President Trump).

I think that taking away food from children in order to shower additional wealth on the richest among us is wrong. I want to know what you think, too. Do you think Congress should do more to help hungry children instead of the 1%? Let me know here. [[link removed]]CHILDREN > 1% [[link removed]]

You should also know that the Trump plan to take away food and healthcare benefits doesn’t treat all children equally — it punishes immigrant children most of all, even those with lawful immigration status. Under the Trump plan, 50,000 immigrant children would lose access to critical nutrition.

Now, I want to hear from you. What do you think about the Trump plan to take away benefits from children to further enrich the wealthy — should we put kids first? If you say yes, let us know. And if you have any additional thoughts about the GOP’s tax cuts for the 1%, I want to hear those too. [[link removed]]

I look forward to reading your thoughts,

Mary Gay
