I have an urgent update for you on the situation in Los Angeles.
On Monday, Governor Newsom and I announced a lawsuit against President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for unlawfully deploying 2,000 California National Guard Troops without the Governor’s consent or authorization.
After our announcement, the President doubled down, deploying 2,000 more troops and deploying an additional 700 U.S. Marines — an extremely rare move by a U.S. president.
On Tuesday, I filed a temporary restraining order in court to stop Trump and Hegseth from using military and federalized National Guard to patrol our communities.
More updates soon when I have them. Thanks for standing with me.

Last weekend, President Trump and Department of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth federalized 2,000 California National Guard troops without authorization from Governor Newsom and against the wishes of local law enforcement.
This move was unnecessary, unprecedented, and unlawful — so the Governor and I are suing to stop it. If you have our back, chip in now →
Let me be clear: There is no invasion or rebellion in Los Angeles or the state of California. The President is trying to manufacture chaos and crisis on the ground for his own political ends.
Calling in these troops to respond to protests is not only counterproductive but also deeply unfair to the members of the National Guard who are hard at work every day protecting our state, preparing for and responding to natural disasters, and training so that, if called, they can fight our nation’s wars.
We don’t take the President’s abuse of power and violation of California’s sovereignty lightly. We’re asking a court to put a stop to this unlawful, unprecedented order.
To anyone outraged with this administration who feels moved to stand up and speak out, I urge you to do so peacefully, safely, and lawfully. We will get through this together.
Thank you,
Rob
