Ingham County Man Pleads Guilty to Filing Fraudulent Grant Applications
*LANSING *– Yesterday, Leslie Buck, 26, of Lansing, pled guilty to eight felony counts related to filing fraudulent grant applications with the Michigan Department of Treasury, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Buck, who was charged by the Department of Attorney General in December, pled guilty to seven counts of Perjury – Other Than Court Proceeding, each a 15-year felony, and one count of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, a 10-year felony. In return for a guilty plea on all counts, the People dismissed the Fourth Habitual Felony Offender Notice.
Buck used a computer to submit fraudulent Growing MI Business Grant applications to the Michigan Department of Treasury. The Treasury Department was alerted to this activity by the Lansing Police Department.
“Grant programs are designed to support Michigan residents striving to grow their businesses and should not be exploited for someone’s own personal gain,” Nessel said. “I want to thank the Department of Treasury and Lansing Police Department for their vigilance in uncovering this fraud. My office will continue to prosecute those who abuse public resources.”
Buck is scheduled for sentencing on July 23, 2025, before Judge Wanda Stokes in 30th Circuit Court in Ingham County.
