Air Quality Alert impacts burning permits for central and southern Minnesota

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has updated an air quality alert for central and southern Minnesota that continues until 11 p.m. today, June 12.

A portion of the alert has been canceled for north central Minnesota. The alert has been expanded to include southeast Minnesota.

To reduce additional air pollutants, burning permits will not be issued or activated for the impacted areas. Campfires are discouraged.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is moving into and across Minnesota behind a cold front. Parts of Minnesota are expected to reach the orange air quality index (AQI) category, which is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
