No-one in the city will ever forget the tragic events of 13 June 2023.
Two years on from those horrific events, I can’t begin to imagine what the families of Barnaby, Grace and Ian, as well as those who suffered injuries, continue to go through. The hearts of everyone in Nottingham go out to them.
The city showed its support for the families when thousands of people came together for the vigil the Council held in the Old Market Square two days after the attacks to stand with them to remember their cherished loved ones.
I will be joining the memorial walk to the locations where Barnaby, Grace and Ian lost their lives to lay flowers on behalf of the city. Deputy Leader, Cllr Ethan Radford will attend St Mary’s church in Bulwell to pay his respects on behalf of the city to local resident Ian Coates.
It remains our desire to see a lasting memorial in the city to Barnaby, Grace and Ian but it’s important that we seek the thoughts of all the families before progressing any plans further.
It is more than just a race - it's a powerful show of love, remembrance, and hope. Every step you take honours those we've lost, supports those still fighting, and brings us closer to a future free from cancer.

Active Nottingham, part of Nottingham City Council, formally launched Notty’s New Hat on 27 May following the final of their exciting ‘Read and Swim’ events across City leisure centres. The event featured Nottingham-raised CBeebies and Waterloo Road star, Shauna Shim, who captivated children with a reading of Notty’s New Hat at Ken Martin Leisure Centre on 27 May 2025.
Children at Clifton, Ken Martin and Djanogly Community Leisure Centre met Notty the Otter, enjoyed fun activities and a Swim for Fun session, following their exclusive reading of the new children’s book.

From June 9-15, we celebrate Carers Week with the theme "Caring About Equality." This week is dedicated to recognising the invaluable contributions of unpaid carers who support family members and friends with physical or mental illnesses, disabilities, or other needs. Despite their essential role, many carers face significant challenges, including poor health, social isolation, and financial hardship. Together, we can create a fairer and more supportive society.

Brand new bridge takes shape
Over recent weeks, the residents and commuters of Hucknall have noticed something new taking shape on the horizon – Nottingham’s brand-new walking and cycling bridge is being fabricated using British Steel, just a few miles from its eventual home. The project is being delivered by Balfour Beatty as the overall project partner, managing all aspects from design to installation. Briton Fabricators Ltd, specialists in ambitious infrastructure projects including rail, motorway and foot bridges, have fabricated the steel and built the bridge’s main structure.
Nottingham will benefit from £2 million in funding towards sustainable public transport and improved rail, road and bus connections between Derby and Nottingham.
A car was towed away and more than 30 people were fined as part of a crackdown in Nottingham on the misuse of blue badges. Nottingham City Council officers took part in the National Blue Badge Day of Action 2025 on 30 May, which aims to raise public awareness about the effect it has on disabled people.
Council to consult on proposal to close Snape Wood primary school due to low pupil numbers
Nottingham City Council is consulting on a proposal to close Snape Wood Primary & Nursery School in Bulwell due to a decline in pupil numbers which is affecting its financial stability and sustainability.
Although no decision has yet been made, the proposal would see the school close on 31 August 2026, at the end of the 2025/26 academic year.
New ‘Love Your City Centre’ campaign launches to tackle crime and clean up Nottingham
Nottingham City Council is launching a new initiative – Love Your City Centre – aimed at creating a safer, cleaner, and more welcoming city centre for residents, businesses, and visitors.
