Outstanding Work Of Our Attorney General

Greetings,

This year, I’ve written extensively about the importance of this election as we choose our next Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and the makeup of the General Assembly. These decisions will shape the direction of our Commonwealth for years to come. One role that often doesn’t receive the attention it deserves is that of the Attorney General. As the chief law enforcement officer of Virginia, the Attorney General plays a vital role in how we address crime and keep our communities safe. Their leadership directly influences public safety policy, prosecutorial priorities, and community trust in our legal system.

That’s why this week, I want to highlight the work of our outstanding Attorney General, Jason Miyares. He has consistently led with strength, determination, and a clear vision for a safer Virginia.

One of his most effective initiatives has been Operation Ceasefire, a targeted effort that has made a significant impact on reducing violent crime throughout the Commonwealth. His leadership proves that smart, focused strategies, when properly funded and implemented, can deliver real results for everyday Virginians.

Operation Ceasefire is a proven, data-driven strategy that has worked in other states and is now doing wonders right here in Virginia. The initiative targets violent repeat offenders, invests in gang prevention efforts, supports community policing, and funds comprehensive witness and victim assistance programs. This multifaceted approach not only removes dangerous criminals from our streets but also strengthens the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve. By focusing resources where they are needed most, we are preventing violence before it happens.

According to the annual public safety report released in October 2024, Virginia has seen a 30% decrease in murders and an 11% reduction in overall violent crime compared to the previous year. In Danville alone, homicides are down by 25% and robberies have dropped by 28%.

These are not just numbers, they represent lives saved, families kept whole, and neighborhoods given a chance to thrive. The message from our Attorney General is clear: “If you endanger Virginians’ lives and terrorize our neighborhoods with violence, the Commonwealth of Virginia will ensure you face the full force of justice. There is no escaping the consequences.”

Virginians deserve to feel safe in their cities, towns, and neighborhoods, and I’m proud that we have an Attorney General who understands and respects that. Jason Miyares has shown unwavering support for law-abiding citizens while putting violent offenders on notice. The only people who should live in fear are the repeat criminals who wreak havoc on our communities.

That’s the kind of justice system that builds trust, restores order, and strengthens the fabric of our society.

Unfortunately, the other party has consistently taken a soft-on-crime approach that endangers our communities. They’ve supported sanctuary city policies that harbor criminal illegal immigrants and block cooperation between local law enforcement and federal authorities. These policies undermine public safety, frustrate law enforcement efforts, and create environments where dangerous individuals can avoid accountability. Virginians deserve leadership that puts the safety of families first, not political agendas that protect criminals over citizens.

This is why it is so important to re-elect Jason Miyares as Attorney General. Of all the great work he has done in office, I believe Operation Ceasefire has had the most immediate and impactful effect on the day-to-day lives of Virginians. Safer streets lead to stronger neighborhoods, better schools, and a healthier environment for businesses and families to thrive. Operation Ceasefire is a shining example of what it looks like when leadership, accountability, and community partnership come together to drive real change.

Without an Attorney General who is tough on crime and focused on results, Virginians will be left more vulnerable, and our progress will be at risk.
