John,

Wildfire season has arrived in Washington, and experts have already predicted an above-average risk across the state. The reality is that natural disasters like this are increasing in frequency and severity, and our communities need to be prepared.

As tribal communities face these worsening extreme weather events and sea level rise, it’s critical that they have the resources to quickly manage and respond to the resulting damages. Last week, I helped introduce a bill to empower Tribal Nations in building environmental resiliency by removing red tape currently preventing access to those much-needed federal resources.

There’s no time to waste when it comes to disaster preparedness, John. If you agree that disaster assistance should be accessible for all communities, add your name with mine here:

Protecting access to emergency preparedness and disaster response funding is just common sense, John. It’s not wasteful to ensure tribal communities can relocate and rebuild after a flood, or to ensure that our kids, seniors, and neighbors have a safe place to evacuate nearby.

In the wake of FEMA cancelling millions of dollars in federal funding for disaster mitigation programs across Washington, this fight is more urgent than ever.

We must ensure all of our communities – regardless of ZIP code – are prepared for emergencies before they hit. Are you with me? Add your name here.
