Politics in a Nutshell
Clean energy tax cuts in reconciliation budget would stall renewable energy projects in Iowa • Iowa Capital Dispatch [[link removed]]
$238 million of economic activity is at risk in Iowa; all because the Republican budget bill strips away our clean energy tax credits. Without these credits many renewable energy operations will shut down, the workers building and maintaining them could lose their jobs, and electricity will become more expensive for everyone in the state.
13 House Republicans urge Senate to scale back clean energy cuts in bill they voted for [[link removed]]
13 House Republicans who voted ‘Yes’ on their budget bill have, in a moment of stunning irony, signed a letter urging their Senate counterparts not to accept it. They want the clean energy credits added back to the bill, something that Iowa desperately needs. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, not a single Iowa Representative has joined them.
Iowa economy shrinks, posts second-worst growth as political parties pass the blame [[link removed]]
Iowa and North Dakota were the only states last year whose economy actually shrank. We also rank as the 48th state in personal income growth, and 50th in job growth. Iowa is on the wrong path, and has been ever since Republicans took complete control of our state government. In order to turn our state around, first we have to vote them out.
Representatives on the Record
Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (202) 225-6576
Does Rep. Miller-Meeks support adding the clean energy credits back into the budget bill? If she does, why did she vote ‘Yes’ on a version without them? Iowa’s economy is already on the rocks, we can’t afford to harm one of the fastest growing industries in our state. What is she doing to make sure her constituents aren’t hurt by higher electricity costs if the credits don’t go through? Why isn’t she fighting in Congress for this issue?
Representative Ashley Hinson (202) 225-2911
Does Rep. Hinson support adding the clean energy credits back into the budget bill? If she does, why did she vote ‘Yes’ on a version without them? Iowa’s economy is already on the rocks, we can’t afford to harm one of the fastest growing industries in our state. What is she doing to make sure her constituents aren’t hurt by higher electricity costs if the credits don’t go through? Why isn’t she fighting in Congress for this issue?
Representative Zach Nunn (515) 400-8180
Does Rep. Nunn support adding the clean energy credits back into the budget bill? If he does, why did he vote ‘Yes’ on a version without them? Iowa’s economy is already on the rocks, we can’t afford to harm one of the fastest growing industries in our state. What is he doing to make sure his constituents aren’t hurt by higher electricity costs if the credits don’t go through? Why isn’t he fighting in Congress for this issue?
Representative Randy Feenstra (712) 224-4692
Does Rep. Feenstra support adding the clean energy credits back into the budget bill? If he does, why did he vote ‘Yes’ on a version without them? Note From the Chair
Hey folks! Rita Hart here.
The Republican budget bill proves more devastating for Iowa by the day. The clean energy tax credits it ends could set Iowa back by $ 238 million [[link removed]] worth of economic activity. Jobs would be lost across all sectors of the industry, and Iowans would foot higher electricity bills as a result.
All of our Republican Representatives voted for this big, bad budget bill and not a single one [[link removed]] signed on to the letter House Reps sent to the Senate urging them to put the clean energy credits back into the bill.
In order for Iowa to get leaders that look out for their own constituents, we’ll need to vote out our current representatives. Trainings, protests, workshops, and more are all available to attend. Things like the Johnson County Democrats’ Listening Tour training video [[link removed]] are valuable resources that can help Democrats at every level, whether you’re a part time volunteer or a Democratic member of the State Senate. We’re ramping up our organizational efforts, and we hope you’ll be there to join us on the way!
To make the change we all want to see, we need to work together. I appreciate your continued involvement and support of the Iowa Democratic Party.
Our work continues,
Sincerely,
Rita Hart
