John—
We only have a few more days to stop the Trump administration from using the Department of Energy (DOE) to eliminate civil protections for women and girls, people of color, and other marginalized communities. The DOE provides billions in financial assistance to schools, universities, research institutions, nuclear facilities, and more, and therefore has a responsibility to ensure its funding is not used to support discrimination. We must show the Trump administration that we’re paying attention, and they can’t exploit an administrative procedure to roll back our rights without public outrage!

We deserve to have our voices heard on important regulations that will affect our civil rights.

Subject: Don't let the Trump administration gut civil rights protections
Dear John,
The Trump administration is seeking to eliminate essential civil rights protections for women and girls, as well as other historically marginalized communities, through the Department of Energy (DOE). And they’re hoping we won’t notice.
They are using a series of “direct federal rules” (DFRs) that allow them to bypass the standard notice-and-comment rulemaking process that includes seeking meaningful input from the public before making such significant changes. However, a DFR cannot go into effect if the DOE receives significant adverse comments. This is where you come in, John.

Here is some of what the DOE’s DFRs would eliminate:
* programs enabling educational institutions to address structural and historical obstacles leading to an underrepresentation of women and girls, particularly women and girls of color, in certain fields like STEM;
* opportunities for girls and women to play sports by requiring schools to allow them to try out for non-contact sports teams that are only available to boys and men, such as baseball; and
* protections against the discriminatory effects of policies and practices that seem neutral on their face but disproportionately harm historically marginalized communities, especially communities of color.
Bottom line: The Trump DFRs represent a dangerous step backward and pose a serious threat to women, girls, people of color, and other marginalized communities. Submit your comments NOW in opposition of these harmful final rules and ensure that the DOE hears our collective opposition. [[link removed]]]
