John,
We must fund our freedom to vote -- because without election integrity, democracy cannot stand.
Free and fair elections are the bedrock of a functioning democracy. But today, that foundation is under unprecedented attack.
Across the country, the systems that uphold our right to vote -- and the dedicated people who run them -- are being strained to the breaking point by:
-
Rising cyber threats and foreign interference, fueled by new generative AI tools
-
Waves of disinformation designed to confuse voters and erode public trust
-
Voter suppression legislation that burdens election officials and restricts voting access
-
Cuts to federal support, with critical DHS and DOJ programs frozen or dismantled
These threats aren’t hypothetical. Donald Trump himself told a Christian group in 2024, “in four years, you don't have to vote again. We'll have it fixed so good, you're not gonna have to vote."
These threats are happening now -- and they’re growing. Election workers are being harassed. Machines are outdated. The DOJ task force to defend our vote from foreign and domestic threats is being shuttered. And Congress is failing to act.
That’s why we need to send a direct message to Congress to pass the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). Tell them to allocate $825 million in Election Security Grants now.
$825 million is the same bipartisan investment made under the Trump administration in 2020. At least two-thirds of that must go directly to local officials, including the election workers who are on the front lines of protecting our vote.
This isn’t about politics. It’s about protecting the cornerstone of American democracy. If voters lose faith in elections, democracy itself will begin to unravel. Our democracy cannot afford another year of underinvestment. We must act now -- before it’s too late.
Tell Congress: Fund our elections. Defend our democracy. Allocate $825 million to protect elections at the local level now.
Thank you for standing with the election officials who protect our freedom to vote -- and the future of our republic.
