Texas Republicans are trying to rig the game, John.

The Texas Tribune: Texas' GOP congressional delegation meets to discuss redrawing districts ahead of midterms

At the urging of Trump’s political team, nearly every Texas Republican in the House met to discuss a plan to redraw our state’s congressional map. Their goal? Gerrymander districts even more aggressively so they stay in power after the midterm elections no matter how unpopular their agenda becomes.

They’re pushing Governor Abbott to call a special legislative session to redraw district lines mid-decadean extremely rare and deeply undemocratic move.

Why are they doing this? Beto put it best:

A post on X from Beto O'Rourke: 'Used to be that voters chose their member of Congress. But TX Republicans are so worried that they can’t win on the merits of slashing health care, defunding public education, and taking food away from hungry kids that they’re trying to rig the rules before the elections begin.'

Instead of trying to improve the lives of working Texans, Republicans would rather push Donald Trump’s unpopular agenda and rewrite the rules to make sure they win no matter what.

Texas deserves better. That’s why Powered by People is fighting back. We’re on the ground right now registering as many voters as possible and organizing communities to protect our democracy at the ballot box. But we need a powerful grassroots movement if we’re going to win in 2026.
