ARCHBISHOP GOMEZ CALLS FOR DAY OF PRAYER AND WILL CELEBRATE MASS TODAY FOR PEACE AND UNITY
Archbishop José H. Gomez called for a day of prayer for peace and unity in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles today, Wednesday, June 11, 2025. To unite our communities in prayer during this time of unrest, Archbishop Gomez will celebrate Mass at 12:10 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels (555 W. Temple Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012).
The Mass will be livestreamed at this link: https://lacatholics.org/praying-together/
“In this time of unrest and uncertainty, we turn our hearts to God, the source of all peace,” said the message to parishes from Father Juan Ochoa, Director of the Office of Worship. "As followers of Jesus and members of His Church, we are called to be instruments of reconciliation, healing, and hope. Archbishop Gomez invites all Catholics and people of goodwill to pray for our nation, and especially for our immigrant and local community during this tumultuous time."

Parishes are also encouraged to commit to prayer in the days ahead for peace, unity, and healing. Parishes were given special prayers of intention and asked to observe the call through the celebration of daily Mass as well as other prayerful observances such as family rosary, Liturgy of the Hours, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Eucharistic Adoration, Litany of Trust, the reading of Sacred Scripture, Works of Mercy, Sacred Heart Novena, and fasting.
The Archdiocese has also invited everyone to light a candle tonight as a symbol of unity among all communities in support of peace.

“With so many in fear, we are hoping to share a message of peace and hope, uniting our prayers with others throughout southern California to end the violence, bring healing and for a path toward reform of our broken immigration system,” said Michael Donaldson, Senior Director for the Office of Life, Justice and Peace for the Archdiocese. “We invite everyone to join in prayer and light a candle at 6:00 p.m. so that through prayer, wherever we may be, we are united for peace in our communities.”
