This just in: We’re adding another SPECIAL Community Meeting to the MomsRising rotation this month – and you’re invited! Thousands of you have been joining our Community Meetings, so we’re adding more by popular demand. Right now, we’re coming together to rapidly respond to the fact that Trump and Republican leaders’ Big Betrayal Bill has officially landed in the Senate, and your voice is needed to shut it down before they vote in the next few weeks.
Listen up! A few weeks ago, the U.S. House Republicans passed Trump’s draconian budget and tax bill that blatantly prioritizes tax breaks for billionaires and mega-corporations over essential programs (like healthcare) that allow our families and economy to thrive. We’re talking about the biggest cuts to food stamps and healthcare in American history: the proposal includes $860 billion in cuts to Medicaid and $250 billion in cuts to food assistance. [1] 16 million Americans stand to lose their health care coverage as a result of this harmful bill, and it will lead to over 51,000 preventable deaths annually. [2] All of this in order to give billionaires and mega-corporations yet another tax cut. Every red flag is waving!
Now, it’s up to the U.S. Senate to review this bill—and that’s where we plan to stop this giant pile of awfulness in its tracks! There’s proof that the pressure we’ve been putting on Congress is working. In fact, some Republican Senators have already signaled their concerns with the Medicaid cuts included in the bill. [3]
So on June 18th, let’s come together to tell our Senators: Moms and families are watching! We’re putting our foot down.
To make this meeting even more special, we have a packed roster of leaders and partners who will share insider knowledge of what’s happening and how you can make a difference. We will hear from Democratic leaders in the U.S. Senate who have been hustling to make the voices of families heard and put this bill to a stop. MomsRising will also be joined by our partners in the movement, the National Women’s Law Center. You’ll also have an opportunity to have your questions answered live by those in the room where it happens. You won’t want to miss this meeting!
