Friend,
When we talk about strengthening our democracy by fighting for the freedom to vote, we also have to ask, “What comes next?” “What are we voting for, and what does it protect?” We ask this because our fight goes beyond casting our ballot. It’s about being free to set our own futures.
Today, we’re reaching out about a group of people whose liberty is under continual, tremendous threat right now. Fair Fight Action is beyond proud to be in solidarity with Mijente, a political home for Latinx and Chicanx people who seek racial, economic, gender, and climate justice.
One area of focus for them is their #NoTechForICE campaign, which raises awareness on the threat of privatized technology being used and abused by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The campaign addresses how a core pillar of democracy — the right to live free of surveillance — is being threatened by the current administration. The role of big tech has become all too prominent in the surveillance, detention, and deportations of immigrant communities.
But friend, this goes beyond immigration. This is about authoritarian tactics being used to suppress, control, and intimidate communities of color. These are the same tactics that drive voter suppression efforts in Black and brown communities across the U.S.
Fair Fight Action is proud to join Mijente in this fight because the freedom to vote and the freedom to exist safely in your community must go hand in hand — and together, we’re fighting to advance democracy, NOT diminish it.
Right now, Black, brown, and immigrant communities are vulnerable to these coordinated anti-democracy authoritarian attacks. Split a donation between Fair Fight Action and Mijente now to fuel our work to protect freedom for ALL. [[link removed]]

Mijente isn’t just exposing these harmful systems, but also organizing to dismantle them — empowering and training new generations of changemakers, mobilizing Latinx communities to use their power in our democracy, and pushing forward with pivotal campaigns:
📚 Education: Together with Just Futures Law, Mijente launched Ni Un Dato Más, their new popular education campaign that seeks to address the gap between tech justice work and monolingual Spanish-speaking, immigrant communities. In addition, their End the Contract Coalition directly connects with law students at 15+ law schools throughout the country to fight to end the complicity of data broker companies with ICE, on and off campus.
🤝 Eliminating ICE Loopholes: Sanctuary efforts, as well as welcoming protections across the country have been hard fought, but government agencies like ICE are still able to circumvent them through contracts with data broker companies. Mijente provides strategic and technical support to local groups organizing to eliminate this loophole, including leading efforts in Cook County to pass model policy.
🧐 Monitoring and exposing exploitation tactics by ICE by tracking how they abuse technology advancements. This includes research and reports about local data sharing with ICE and the national changes to DHS surveillance programs under the current administration.
Whether it’s big tech bro-ligarchs, anti-voter extremists, anti-immigrant radicals, or someone who falls in between — ALL of these bullies fall under the anti-freedom, anti-democracy bucket, trying to diminish our power.
So, we’re joining forces with Mijente, and together, we’re building a movement for multi-racial democracy. But this can only happen when we recognize that our fights are interconnected and work together.
